The profession of stained glass artist requires a range of artistic, intellectual, and physical skills, making it ideal for "multitasking" individuals. This is why it is essential, before embarking on training or career change, to experience this profession firsthand through a professional immersion in a workshop. This hands-on experience helps confirm one’s vocation and understand the realities of the craft.
Over the last 30 years, the workshop has hosted more than 200 trainees and 18 apprentices have obtained their CAP (certificate of professional competence). This shows the importance placed by Sklaerenn Imbeaud on training and transmission of knowledge, particularly towards women.

Stained Glass Training — CAP Vitrailliste, Blocks 1 & 2
Duration: 3 × 5 days, i.e. 105 hours.
Objectives and program
This stained glass training near Toulouse, in Castres, eligible for public funding sources such as the CPF, France Travail, the OPCO or the FAF among others, aims to acquire all the basic techniques of the stained glass craft.
Theoretical and practical knowledge is covered first, to provide an overall overview of the stained glass profession. The skills and techniques acquired then allow the trainee to develop further, with a view to sitting the CAP Arts et techniques du verre (option vitrailliste) as an independent candidate.
This stained glass training in Castres therefore aims to enable the trainee to:
- Concretely grasp the stained glass profession from the outset;
- Put the techniques of the stained glass craft into practice;
- Acquire the skills covered in Block 1 and Block 2 of the CAP.
You will have acquired theoretical and technical knowledge about the making of stained glass windows, the processes of glassworking (cutting, colouring and assembly) as well as reading a drawing or a model. You will have approached decorative or figurative compositions: preparing the work (model, cartoon, tracing, sizing), colouring the glass, cutting, leading or copper-foiling, then soldering. Finally, if you wish, you may discuss with the instructor the possibility of taking part in a worksite.
This training is certifying and prepares for the official certification (the CAP diploma) which attests and validates your skills; you must continue self-training on the theory and the upkeep of the technical gestures learned on site after the course, in order to register for the CAP as an independent candidate. It is listed in the French National Directory of Professional Certifications (RNCP) and is nationally recognised.
A qualifying and professionalising course, it allows you to acquire recognised professional skills, directly applicable in employment or self-employment, thanks to strong hands-on practice (real cases, trade gestures) so you become operational quickly.
